​Namaqualand’s annual flower spectacle is an ephemeral wonder where the region, which lies barren for almost three-quarters of the year, after good winter rains is transformed into a kaleidoscope of riotous color.

Namaqualand is also unique in being the only desert in the world to have such an extravagant and diverse floral display.

With precipitation being the determining factor for germination and growth, the intensity of flower displays may vary from area to area, and from season to season.

Namaqualand is part of the Succulent Karoo biome and is home to a rich variety of bulb plants and spectacular wildflowers.

This extended tour, which leaves from Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha), covers history, sites, towns, scenery, wines, etc in out of the way places in the Central and West Karoo, West Cape Coast interior and the Eastern Cape interior. This adds a vast array of spectacular places and pleasures to the list.
